Greeter’s Team

(a component of the Worship Commission)

Mission Statement
The Greeter’s team intentionally welcomes those who enter our doors, to worship or join with us for a meal or activity. The purpose of welcoming visitors, newcomers and each other as members is to warmly encourage all to share in the life of the church community through our faith in God.
• Matthew 25: 35 I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.

Greeter’s Team Overview
Our Pastors encourage visitors to participate in worship however and wherever they feel led. Pew cards with general information are available at ends of pews or from any greeter wearing a name tag. Our weekly bulletin provides a map of the building and our indoor signage offers clarity to locate rooms and facilities. A Welcome Table with a sign, additional pew cards, welcome bags, and candy and has been intentionally placed in the hall leading from the Sanctuary to the parlor.

The team assigns two individuals weekly to intentionally greet visitors, newcomers (repeat visitors) and other church members. Our goal is to represent the love and grace of Christ and warmly welcome individuals or families to feel comfortable to worship alongside us. From the time visitors enter our doors, the team members attempt to greet them and introduce themselves. Families with children are provided with an informational card regarding participation the children’s message and Sunday school grades and classrooms. An activity bag may be offered to parents of younger children who chose not to attend Sunday school. Following worship, team members attempt to continue contact with the visitor to introduce them to others.
Greeters sensitively consider visitor’s responses to not overwhelm them with good intentions.

The team members may offer to accompany visitors to the coffee hour space, extend invitations to upcoming church activities and make repeated contacts in following weeks to build connections. After a period of time, newcomers are asked to consider sharing their email address’ to receive the church’s weekly email blasts.

The Greeter’s team hosts or co-hosts two congregational meals after church each spring and fall to provide hospitality for all. Following these events, two or more informational meetings are offered to newcomers each year to provide additional information on the church and it’s foundation of faith in the Reformed church in America.
