GATHERING IN THE LIGHT OF GOD

      PRELUDE

      WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

INTROIT     Arise, Shine, for Your Light is Come              Isaiah 60:1-5,14,20

                                                                                 ARISE, SHINE

  • GOD CALLS US TO WORSHIP -adapted from Isaiah 60

Arise, shine; for God’s light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon us…the Lord will arise, and his glory will appear over us today.

Nations shall come to God’s light, and kings to the brightness of God’s dawn.

Lift up your eyes and look around; we have come together to be with God this day.

Then we will see God and reflect God’s light for others.  Our hearts are full of joy when we are in the presence of God.  And some will come, bringing gold and frankincense.

One day our sorrows will end, for the Lord is our everlasting light!

The Lord is our everlasting light, to God be the glory!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

All-glorious God, we have faith in Jesus Christ, and love towards your people.  Yet we are not always full of love, generosity, and forgiveness.  Our love is not as great as yours, we put limits on our generosity and our forgiveness is not as merciful as we think.  Guide us into this new year.  Help us to become more giving and forgiving, expand our love for you and one another…

 (silent prayers of confession)

  • The Apostles’ Creed and Congregational Vows

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

He descended to the dead.

On the third day He rose again;

He ascended into heaven,

He is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Beloved in the Lord Jesus Christ,

do you receive in the name of the Lord,

Kelly Tanis, Marty Mariniello and David Parish

as duly elected and ordained servants of Christ?

We do.

Do you promise to respect them for the sake of the offices

for which they have been chosen and ordained?

We do.

Do you promise to encourage and pray for them,

to labor together in obedience to the gospel

for the unity, purity, and peace of the church,

the welfare of the whole world, and

the honor of our Lord Jesus Christ?

We do.

Beloved people of God, please

receive Kelly, Marty and David as Christ’s own servants.

Support them in love, that their work may bear fruit.

In the name and by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ,

We declare that these sisters and this brother

are duly installed as a deacon and as elders in this church.

Thanks be to God! Amen!

"My Muslim neighbors are often prepared for Christians to debate them; they are less prepared to have a Christian love them.  My Muslim neighbors are often suspicious of my motives, but when I simply be and live with them they become open to seeing my faith as something to learn about.  Even as God in Christ, became incarnate and Immanuel, I hope in some small ways to incarnate the love of Christ through my life here in Oman and reflect the incarnational love of God for all creation."
