Deacons and Elders

Deacons at Preakness Reformed Church
Deacons are set apart for a ministry of mercy, service, and outreach. They gather gifts and offerings, care for them faithfully, and distribute them with wisdom and compassion to persons in need and for purposes that advance God’s kingdom on earth. Deacons visit and comfort the distressed, provide for whatever necessities may arise, and assist the congregation at services, deliver flowers to our shut-ins, engage and support our outreach ministries, and respond to urgent needs in our community and within the church.

Elders at Preakness Reformed Church
In the Reformed Church in America, the office of the elder is one of servanthood. At PRC, elders are elected members who together with Pastor Eric, have supervision of the church entrusted to them. They are set apart for a ministry of watchful and responsible care for all matters relating to the welfare and good order of the church. They strive to oversee the family of faith, encourage spiritual growth, maintain loving discipline, and provide for the proclamation of the gospel and the celebration of the sacraments. Upon request, the elders administer home communion to those unable to attend worship services.
